It was a honour to meet Mike: a 17 year old bloke who's into cycles since he was born. He makes the craziest stuf!!! Check out his lawn-mower (!) based hotrod, and a Puch chopper with a one-off frame, wheels, handlebars... you name it. And he did it all himself! He build the chopper when he was 14. The hotrod he started building when 16. What will he make if he is 18? I'm sure we will hear more of him in the future!

Joan's Froggy Fat Boy

It was a pleasure to meet Joan and her Fatboy. The bike is airbrushed by DAM Design. It's almost photo-realistic.

On the cover!

Of Xtreme Bikes magazine (Spain)! It's Joris his super-great Honda chopper with the finest details you've ever seen on a low-budget chop. Wow man, this is awesome!!

The Green Machine in Chroom & Vlammen

Shamefully stole these scans from the Kustombart blog. His van, the Green Machine, is featured in Chroom & Vlammen magazine (a American orientated car 'zine from the Netherlands). Kustombart's Van is a surviving custom van, which was featured in Vans & Trucks magazine of 1984. And now, in 2011 it's in Chroom & Vlammen! It's a 6-page feature and even a little photo on the cover. Nice!

Andre's one-of-a-kind custom

There's two kind of bikes which are difficult to photograph: black (with much chrome) bikes, and white ones. Because of the contrasts, colors easily blow out or become pitch dark (without details). Today I went to Andre, he made this white bike. Not off-white or something... No! Pure whiter than white white. By pointing some (softboxed) strobes at black parts like wheels and the engine, things came out really well! The location was awesome too!

Some experiment: I've put an CTO-gelled flash-gun inside the tube, the bike is strobed too. Looks nice, doesn't it??

BMW & Harton in Fighters magazine

Fighters magazine in Germany published two of the coolest race-bikes from these cold and wet low-lands. Check out Kees' multi-colored BMW, it's awesome! And the Harton (which got some attention last year!) is featured too.

Mr. Ly's Sporty!

Today the trip went to Belgium and we visited Mr. Ly. He designed this cool traditional rigid Sportster and Custom House build it for him. It's got many nice details. Another cool bike from Belgium!!

Bigtwin, june issue

The new Bigtwin issue will be great. Just because one of the best bikes on this planet will be featured in it: Larry Houghton's BSA, the 'Son of a Gun'. On the cover is Wim's Acebob. And Rene's 'Headhunter' will be published too, just like the retro Dyna Glide of HD Hutten. But, you've got to love that BSA of Larry!!

Can't wait!!

Customized Heritage

Nothing is more difficult than photographing a black motorcycle with lots of polished reflecting metal or chrome on a dull day like this (you know, blewn-out whites and pitch-black parts without details). But the pictures came out pretty good, thanks to the great location that Alexander did find to shoot his customized Harley-Davidson Heritage!

Cees' Triumph

Cees is in 100% biker magazine (UK) with his Triumph. It's good to see that there's a Triumph-thing going on here in the Netherlands!

Bike-tech

Always when I'm shooting a bike in Tessenderlo, Belgium (there's lots of choppers there!) cool things are happening. What about these guys!? Joerie of Bike-Tech and his friend own a cool low budget Honda Shadow and Yamaha Dragstar. Some rubber was burned and there was this nice ´Vlaamse Schone´ posing for some nice photo´s. Super! Cheers!

John's no-bullshit Evo chopper

This afternoon the trip went deep-south, to the regions of Limburg. John made this one-off chopper a few years ago, all by himself. Even the frame is Tig welded in his own garage. Recently the bike was changed with a new rear-end, a 240 mm tyre, a fat tank and a black/ghostflame paintjob. We just madly wanted to see this super-cool bike. Check this photo, Fresh!

Eastside Rock'n Rollers

Ever heard of Roller Derby? No? Yesterday was great fun, as we shot some funny pictures of the Eastside Rock'n Rollers , the Roller Derby girl's team from Enschede, the Netherlands.

Roller derby is a full-contact sport played on rollerskates. It is one of the fastest growing sports in the world, with an estimated 400 leagues worldwide. There are now five leagues in the Netherlands located in Amsterdam, Enschede, Eindhoven, Arnhem, Groningen, Utrecht and Rotterdam/Den Haag.

Games consist of 2 thirty minute periods. Each period is broken down into jams of 2 minutes or less. Each team fields 5 players on an oval track. One of these players is designated as the jammer and can earn points by passing members of the other team. The rest of the skaters make up the pack and their job is to help their jammer through and stop the opposing jammer from passing them. Enter the full-contact aspect and the fun.

At least, that's what the website of the Eastside Rock'n Rollers says! To me it looks like a sort of girl's rugby on skates, fun guaranteed!

The photo's were done really quickly, as we had about a little more than 3 hours before the bar opened (y'know, this is the sort of girls who are distracted when they smell beer or Jack Daniels, so beware!) We had such a great time, thanks!!

The team!
