Ed's Mad Max Shovel

Edd is the LED-light business and in his spare time he created this Mad Max Shovelhead. Matt-black from top till toe and it's a hardtail. Most of the parts are made by his bare hands. The way it should!

Flashlight and polar filters. Hell yeah! Looks pretty dramatic, isn't it?

Tried something new today... Making a action shot by 'tracking' the camera from along the road-side on a tripod, but with strobe-style flash lighting!

Behind the scenes!

El Verdugo

Martin from Belgium is interested in the 'dark ages' and so he made this Sportster 'Torture Machine' with the sickest little details I've ever seen on a bike, like a finger-cutter, axes, knives and a bludgeon!! We shot the photo's at a brick-factory, which stood there for the last day as it will be take down tomorrow! We sneaked inside the plant: a dangerous job, as it's said that a girl was killed there a few weeks ago during a fashion photo shoot. The police's barrier tape was still there as silent witness. The roofs (asbestos) almost fell down and the floor were dotted with shattered glass. But it was worth the effort and I came home with some nice pix.

Tried out my new polar filter today, in combi with flashlight. Love it!

Collapsing roofs, shattered glass and old brick-stones everywhere. I really like these 'urbex' photo locations.

Sjoerd's SMXbike

Sjoerd is architect for profession and -as he is a creative person- he designed a custombike. SPS (Special Parts Supply) made Sjoerd's design reality. The bike features two 21 inch wheels and countless self-made parts.
Really burning-hot sunny conditions today, which is killing for photography at mid-day in combination with a white bike. But we succeed making some cool photo's though!

Librije HD's

We didn't have much time for the photoshoot today because Jonnie & Therese, owners of one of Europe's best Restaurants, Librije in Zwolle, were pretty busy with preparing the best food for today's guests! They showed the restaurant, the kitchen and their nice Harleys. Because I had to do things fast, I decided to work with natural light and one little flasher, popping up at the left side. The sun was harsch and at the wrong location, in combination with the background we wanted for the photo, so we put the bikes in the shade.

Psycho Shadow

Today it started with rain, rain and more rain, when I left these orange-coloured soccer-infested Dutch low-lands. But luckily it stopped pissing down at the time I arrived in Belgium. We shot some photo's of Eddy's Honda Shadow 600 hardtail bobber today. The sickle is dropped, hardtailed and painted by a young bikebuilder, Nicky. Since a short period he owns the website Psycho-Cycles.

Athough it stopped raining, it was pretty dark and the clouds where dead-grey. And so I feared for blowing out highlights in the sky. Help, help, what to do about it, I thought! Okay, don't panic! And out came a 500 watt flasher with umbrella diffusor, one strobe for an edge on the front wheel plus two connected strobes (fired with one receiver) for a highlight on Eddy's face, left side. So, the clouds could be under-exposed without covering these symphathetic Belgian guys in the shade. Looks pretty cool, doesn't it?

This weather is always great for long exposure action shots!

Okay, readers of this blog know that I'm always toying (and annoying, haha!!) with flashlights. At the picture on top you see that it's a flashy picture, made on purpose. But flashlight doesn't have to be that obvious, though.

Let's take today's weather conditions... Grey skies at the middle of the day, that means that the light comes from the 'natural softbox' (the clouds) from above. The result is over-all okay, but also a little 'dull'.

Enlarge these two photo's and you'll see the difference. The picture above is without flashlight, straight out of the camera on the A-position. The fuel tank's top is bright (just like the asphalt) and the bike's side is a little dark. Looks pretty okay'ish, and photoshop is your friend, but it could be more okay than this.

The photo below - I've put the cam in manual position - is a little under-exposed, so the asphalt and the top of the bike are a little darker. The bike's side is filled-in with a flasher + diffusor. Tahdah!

Roadrunner ladies

The roadrunner ladies had their annual ride-out and so I shot some group-photo's of these girls.

Rain, sunshine, rain, sunshine... Up there they couldn't decide about the weather today...

They wanted a photo of me... in the sidecar... This is centerfold-material, isn't it?

Niels' Triumph 3TA

Niels collected shitloads of cool 70's parts all over the years. A Triumph 3TA is dressed up with a coffin tank, painted by Blue Moon Kustoms. But what about the Invader wheels, Ron Finch springer, the Bunny Bars, king & queen seat and last but not least the trident sissybar... Oh I forgot the fishtails, and the coffin rear light, and the Aris headlight... and of course the Iron Cross mirrors... Did I mention the octagon shaped oil-tank? Oh man, this bike is sooo twisted, but twisted in a great way! Thanks for the nice day, Niels!
